March is Reading Month-Reading Saves the Day!
Reading Month is up and running! Your child came home with a tracking sheet on Thursday of last
week where we are challenging them to try different genres of books. We can also sign the yellow
sheet as we see them complete books here at school. We thought as a 3rd grade that it would be
fun to do a little competition between our classes. So this month we are tracking students “Reading
Counts Points.” We showed students how to access this site on Thursday. Read Counts is a
program that we use to check in on the comprehension of books students read. Students login and
take a 10 question test after they read a book. If they get 7 out of 10 questions correct, they pass! If
they pass a test, they are awarded points. Every book has a different set of points depending on the
level of the book.
For Reading Month, the three 3rd grade classes will be competing to see which class can gain the
most points in the month. The winning class will get a sweet treat! AND the student who gains the
most points gets to pie their own teacher in the face! How FUN!
Please make sure to take a look at our class calendar for Reading Month dates. There are many fun
dress up days during this month, and other great activities that your child will be engaged in! Lincoln
will be hosting the book fair the week of March 9th. We also have two authors coming to visit us this
month as well!
Let Me Run
There was an email sent out to you on Friday about the new boys running program at Lincoln.
Practices will start in the middle of March. Here is the link to sign up!
